There were 4 large alligators and several small ones the day I took these pictures. You can walk out on a 200 foot pier and you will see the alligators. They range in size from 1 1/2 foot to about 7 feet. When they get longer than that I believe they are caught and moved to another location. I will say that they are very good to eat. They taste a little like chicken. You can also fish on this pier. Worms would be the best bait to use to catch some brim and catfish. Just find an area of loose dirt and dig a little and you should find a worm or two to use. The catfish also like chicken livers. There is a nature trail that goes all around the 5 acre pond. Great place to bring the kids. None of them have been eaten by the alligators as of yet. So don't get any ideas.
You will find that this State Park is one of the best ones here in Louisiana. So if you are a tourist and need a place to pull your camper, stop here for a nice peaceful setting. You will be glad you did.
